The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust inspires young people aged 8-24 to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer.
Through sailing and outdoor adventure, young people have fun, gain a new sense of purpose and self-worth, rediscover independence, and feel optimism for the future.
Every year in the UK, around 1,800 children (0-14) and 2,400 young people (15-24) are diagnosed with cancer – around 11 a day (CRUK, 2022). Happily, survival rates are increasing.
But young people remain vulnerable after treatment as it comes at a time of rapid physical, emotional, and social development, and for many, simply picking up where they left off before their diagnosis just isn’t possible.
That is why when treatment ends, the Trust’s work begins.
Young people realise what they are capable of again - physically, mentally, and socially - and stop feeling like ‘the only one’. They start to re-establish their place in the world and can believe in a brighter future.
From supporting five young people in 2003 to around 700 in 2023, you can make a life-changing difference to young people while celebrating the Trust’s 20th anniversary by donating today: www.ellenmacarthurcancertrust.org/donate/
